Direct Attach Copper transceiver application scenarios

DAC cables are ideal for use in data centers due to their ease of use and reliability. The copper cables provide a high-speed, low-latency connection between server racks and switches, making it easier for network administrators to manage network performance and ensure uptime. DAC cables can also connect switches to routers, providing a high-bandwidth connection ideal for large amounts of data.CHigh-speed data transmission between switches, routers, and servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled the frequently asked questions about our Direct Attach Copper Transceivers. If you have other concerns, feel free to get in touch with our customer support. Our team of experts is always ready to assist.

What Is A DAC?

●Direct Attached Cables, or DACs, are copper cable assemblies made from twinax cable, terminated with transceiver housings on each end. ●DACs are available in passive or for active variants. Passive DACs are typically 7m in length or shorter and use less than 0.15W of power. Active DACs use additional power (0.5W to 1.0W) to provide better performance for longer reach applications (up to 15M) and a smaller cable diameter. ●DACs are available for use in standard transceiver form factors, including: ●10G SFP+ ●25G SFP28 ●40G QSFP+ ●100G QSFP28

Passive DAC Cable

Passive DAC does not contain electronics for signal conditioning and amplification. Therefore it provides a lower price but a limited length (typically 7m for 10G). The passive cable will generate many bit errors for long distances.

Active DAC Cable

Active DAC contains a microprocessor and other electronics for signal conditioning and amplification, which provides better performance for longer-distance transmission.  ●Because of its additional electronics, the price is higher than passive cable and more expensive than AOC cable. Before you purchase an active cable, comparing the total cost with AOC or fiber transceiver will be better. You may find a better cost-saving solution.

What’s The Advantages Of DACs?

①High performance: suitable for short-distance wiring in data centers, with a wide range of applications; ②Environmental protection: The internal material is copper, which has good heat resistance; ③Low power consumption: the power consumption of passive cables is 0 and active optical cables is usually 440mW; ④ Low price: using a DAC cable is more cost effective than using two compatible optical transceiver with a fibre cable.

How To Classify DAC Cables?

Based on the different benchmarks, we can divide them into different types. ●According to the availability of signal conditioning functions, we can divide them into passive and active DAC.

What Is The Maximum Length Of A DAC Cable?

It depends on their data rate.  ●A passive 10G DAC cable can offer a maximum length of 10 meters (~33 feet), while an active 10G cable can reach 15 meters (~49 feet).  ●40G DAC cable can offer a maximum length of 7 meters (~23 feet). ●100G DAC cable can offer a maximum length of 5 meters (~16 feet). ●400G DAC cable can offer a maximum length of 3 meters (~10 feet). ●You may consider the AOC cable or optical transceiver for long-distance applications.

How To Choose The Product You Want?

From Form Factor

Sanopti offers severals typs of  DACs. They are QSFP-DD To 8xSFP28, QSFP-DD To 2xQSFP56, QSFP-DD To 4xQSFP56 and QSFP+ and so on. Please place your order according to your needs.

Consider Speeds

Speed is a major concern. When it comes to fiber optics, you can get networks that are incredibly fast, but they are not cheap. Likewise, if you are trying to save money, sacrificing speed is one of the easiest ways to lower costs. Here are different speeds for your reference:

·40Gbps

·400Gbps

·100 Gbps

·200 Gbps

What Should You Pay Attention To When Purchasing DAC Transceiver?

1.The optical module device will be encrypted to a certain extent to match with its own device. Inclusive manufacturers need to perform different inclusive matching on the optical module to perfectly solve the matching problem.

2.Service life: The service life of a normal optical module is 5 years, depending on the usage of the optical module in terms of time, if there is a problem in about 1 or 2 years, then it can be roughly judged that the The quality of the module itself has a problem Or a used module.

3.Optical module performance: The performance indicators that affect the optical module mainly include average transmitted optical power, extinction ratio, optical signal center wavelength, overload optical power, receiving sensitivity, and receiving optical power. By detecting whether these values are within the normal range The performance of the optical module can be judged. It can be viewed through DDM information. In addition, it can also be judged by whether the signal of the optical module is stable during transmission, whether there is delay, and whether there is packet loss.
