Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled the frequently asked questions about our 10G Optical Transceivers. If you have other concerns, feel free to get in touch with our customer support. Our team of experts is always ready to assist.

What Is The Difference Between 10g Sfp+ And 8g Sfp+ Transceivers?

The main difference is the data rate. 10G SFP+ transceivers offer higher speeds than 8G SFP+ transceivers, making them better suited for high-speed connections between switches and servers. They are also commonly used as the primary interface between switches and routers. The 8G SFP+ transceiver is mainly for fiber channel applications such as 4G/8G FC.

Are Optcore 10g Sfp+ Transceivers Compatible With Cisco/Extreme/Arista Brands?

Our transceivers are coded before shipment and compatible with many brands switch like Cisco/Extreme/Arista, so you can be sure that they will work perfectly with your existing equipment.

How Do I Check If Optcore 10g Sfp+ Transceivers Are Compatible With My Switches?

For most switch platforms, it is easy to insert the transceiver, and it instant works; if not compatible, If incompatible, the switch indicator will show orange or blink. However, you may also use some specific commands to check if it is compatible.

What Is The Difference Between 10g Sfp+ And 8g Sfp+ Transceivers?

Optcore 10G SFP+ transceivers provide significant benefits compared to other 1G SFP transceivers. For example, Optcore 10G SFP+ transceivers offer high-speed data transmission rates, low latency, and cost-effective solutions, enabling network operators to improve their performance and throughput. Optcore 10G SFP+ transceivers are highly reliable and compatible with many networks, making them an ideal solution for connecting devices within a network.

Are Optcore 10g Sfp+ Transceivers Compatible With Multiple Brand Switches Simultaneously?

Optcore 10G SFP+ transceiver works in most brand switches, but it usually can not be compatible with multiple brand switches simultaneously.

What Is Your Warranty For The Product?

Quality is vital in everything that we do. This is why we are confident enough to provide our optical transceivers with a 3-year warranty.

What Is 10g Optical Transceiver?

The SFP-10G Transceiver is a fiber optic transceiver module that conforms to Gigabit Ethernet specification. It has the characteristics of low cost, low power, and miniaturization. It is also widely used in practical applications.

Note: Based on cable types, 10G SFP+ transceiver can be categorized into 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ module, 10GBASE multimode SFP+ fiber module, 10GBASE single mode SFP+ fiber module.

10GBASE-T SFP+ Copper Module

10G copper transceivers, compliant with MSA standard, are designed for the delivery of 10 Gbps data rates over unshielded twisted-pair cabling. Accompanied with Cat6a/Cat7 Ethernet cables, the maximum transmission distance is up to 100 meters. In fact, 10Gig copper SFP+ modules also have a very limited range. You can only get 30m, 50m, or 80m maximum distance at 10Gig using copper RJ-45 SFP+ modules. SFP's don't have the power budget to push a 10Gig signal to a full 100m like regular copper 10Gig switches or NIC's. SFP ports were designed to run fiber modules, not much more power copper.

10GBASE-T is backward-compatible with existing 100M/1GbE networks and can be deployed based on existing 100M/1GbE switch infrastructures over Cat5 or Cat6, providing an easy path from 100M/1GbE to 10GbE networks. For wiring closets, 10GBase-T will be the obvious choice once the demand for bandwidth becomes more acute and once the price and power for 10GBase-T technology comes down.

10GBASE SFP+ Multimode Fiber Module

There are two main types of 10G SFP+ multimode transceivers—10GBASE SR & 10GBASE LRM used for short-range fiber transmission.

10GBASE-SR Multimode SFP+

10GBASE-SR fiber optic transceiver is one of the most commonly used modules for 10GbE. SR stands for short-range, the transmission distance of 10GBASE-SR modules can reach up to 300 meters matched with OM3 multimode fiber (MMF). Implemented with a VCSEL, 10GBASE-SR transceivers also known as the lowest-cost, lowest-power modules. The variant type is named 10GBASE-SRL (10GBASE-SR lite).

How To Choose The Product You Want?

From Wavelength

In fiber optics, wavelength is one of the biggest limiting factors. Wavelength will heavily influence a system's speed, coverage, compatible hardware, and other aspects of network design.

Sanopti offers three wavelengths to choose from. Please note:

850nm signals can only propagate about 500m.

1310nm signal can propagate 40 kilometers.

The 1550nm signal can exceed 40 kilometers.

Consideration range

How far does the signal travel? When you choose a wavelength, you already consider some range, but there's more to the equation. The range of influence between single-mode (SMF) and multimode fiber (MMF) is quite large. Single-mode fiber has greater coverage but costs more, while multi-mode fiber has higher data rate capabilities and offers a price advantage.

Different Type

Sanopti provides 10G CWDM modules and BIDI modules, please place an order according to your needs.

What Should You Pay Attention To When Purchasing A 10g Optical Transceiver?

1.The optical module device will be encrypted to a certain extent to match with its own device. Inclusive manufacturers need to perform different inclusive matching on the optical module to perfectly solve the matching problem.

2.Service life: The service life of a normal optical module is 5 years, depending on the usage of the optical module in terms of time, if there is a problem in about 1 or 2 years, then it can be roughly judged that the The quality of the module itself has a problem Or a used module.

3.Optical module performance: The performance indicators that affect the optical module mainly include average transmitted optical power, extinction ratio, optical signal center wavelength, overload optical power, receiving sensitivity, and receiving optical power. By detecting whether these values are within the normal range The performance of the optical module can be judged. It can be viewed through DDM information. In addition, it can also be judged by whether the signal of the optical module is stable during transmission, whether there is delay, and whether there is packet loss.
